Monthly premiums are $20 for New Yorkers earning up to 200% of the poverty level.
The state’s health exchange expects to enroll over 470,000 New Yorkers in its new low-cost option for coverage this year.
Testifying at an Assembly hearing this week, Donna Frescatore, an executive with the exchange, said New York chose to participate with the Essential Plan, an option under the federal Affordable Care Act starting in 2016.
The plan is aimed at adults who don’t qualify for Medicaid. Premiums are free for those with incomes below 150% of the federal poverty level, or $17,820. Monthly premiums are $20 for those with annual incomes up to 200% of the poverty level.
