Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea may have to go hide under a bridge.
The bassist was ripped apart on social media Tuesday night after performing his bass-only rendition of the National Anthem at Kobe Bryant’s final game.
The 53-year-old, a lifelong Lakers fan, delivered his usual animated stage antics and even banged his head along to the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
Before riffing off the bizarre take to Francis Scott’s Key iconic ballad, the musician, born Michael Balzary, sang Bryant high praises.
All around the world … people are hating on Flea.
“Kobe gave us so much. I just feel grateful to have been able to enjoy it,” he told the L.A. Times.
Later, his butchered patriotic performance set Twitter afire, with an increasing stream of tweets blasting the absurd sendoff for Bryant.
Here is some of what the internet had to say:
I couldn’t hear Flea over the sound of Francis Scott Key clawing at the lid of his casket

Flea’s National Anthem was as bad as the Lakers have been the last 3 years.

Now you can replicate Flea’s rendition of The National Anthem at home! Plug in your toaster and throw it into a bathtub full of water!
