Donald Trump blamed Hillary Clinton for the execution of an Iranian nuclear scientist — attempting to link the former Secretary of State’s private email server to Shahram Amiri’s fate.
Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill accused the presidential hopeful of fabricating reports blaming his Democratic opponent on Amiri’s execution.
“Many people are saying that the Iranians killed the scientist who helped the U.S. because of Hillary Clinton’s hacked emails,” Trump tweeted Monday.

Merrill ripped Trump’s tweet apart after the candidate’s economic speech in Detroit.
“‘Many people are saying’ = ‘I made this up,’” Merrill tweeted.
Merrill continued to troll Trump’s use of “many people” in a series of follow up tweets.
“Many people are saying that a unicorn is housed in a cage atop Trump Tower,” he also wrote.
Trump’s hack claim conflicts with an FBI investigation that concluded in July finding no “direct evidence” that Clinton’s email account had been “successfully hacked.”
Amiri, the celebrated scientist who defected to the United States, was named in Clinton’s emails released by the State Department in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The emails from 2010 identified Amiri as a defector.
Later that year, Amiri returned to Iran celebrated as a hero. Iran’s Judiciary Ministry revealed last week he was convicted of spying for the United States and executed by hanging.
