Gary Simpson, 47, has a warrant out for his arrest for the alleged abduction. Carlie Trent, 9, was pulled out of school on Wednesday afternoon.
The wife of a Tennessee man who abducted their 9-year-old niece from school says her husband is ‘up to something bad’ a day after an AMBER alert was issued for the missing girl.
Cops are searching for Carlie Trent after her uncle, 57-year-old Gary Simpson, pulled her out of school claiming the girl’s father was in a bad car wreck and then took her away in his white conversion van.
“I’m very worried. I’m very concerned,” Gary’s wife, Linda Simpson, 54, told the Daily News by phone. “I think she’s in a lot of danger. I don’t see why you would kidnap a kid if you weren’t up to something bad.”
An AMBER alert was issued Wednesday night for Carlie after she was taken out of class by Simpson around 1:30 on Wednesday at her Rogersville, Tenn. school —her uncle, who doesn’t have custodial rights, told the school that Carlie might not make it to school the following day, either.
Her family became worried when Carlie, who lives with the Simpsons, didn’t get off the school bus at the end of the day.
“She gets off the bus at my house and she didn’t get off,” Linda Simpson said, adding that she’s called her husband innumerable times but he hasn’t answered.
“I can’t think of a clue of where they might be. I’m just sure he’s probably hid out somewhere in a remote-like place, where he thinks nobody might find him. I’m sure he’s smart enough to not be out where someone might find him.”
Carlie Trent, 9, was allegedly abducted by her uncle, Gary Simpson, from her school in Rogersville, Tenn on Wednesday in a white conversion van that looks similar to this.
A warrant has been issued for Simpson’s arrest, WSB-TV reported.
The pair left the Tennessee school in a 2002 Dodge Conversion Van with Tennessee plates and a stripe down the middle with light gold running boards and chipping paint on the hood, according to a report by Missing Persons of America.
Little blue-eyed, blond-haired Carlie is described as being 4’8 inches tall and 75 pounds and was last seen wearing a black and grey tank top with blue jeans.
Simpson is balding, wears glasses, 5’10 inches tall, 157 pounds and was last wearing a brown cap, a dark colored shirt and jeans.
The Rogersville, Tenn. police department is urging anyone with information to call 1-800-TBI-FIND or their department at 423-272-7555.
